North Palmyra Trophies
KUZNETSOVA'S "LIONS" VS. DAVYDENKO'S "SPHINXES"
Tennis returns to the Northern Capital. From December 1-3 the second international team tournament "Trophies of Northern Palmyra" will be held.

The format of the tournament is new. Two teams will compete over the tennis weekend, led by playing captains Svetlana Kuznetsova, a two-time Grand Slam champion, and Nikolay Davydenko, winner of 21 ATP singles titles. Each of them will have three players from the ATP men's professional tour and three players from the WTA women's tour in the national team. Team compositions will be gradually revealed by the organizers during this month on the official resources of the tournament. All matches will be played in two sets, and in case of a tie, the winner will be determined on a tie-break of up to 10 points.

Among the participants are world No. 28 Anastasia Potapova, who won the trophy in Linz this year, and No. 63 of the ATP singles ranking Alexander Shevchenko.

A junior tournament will be held in parallel with the team competition. The strongest Russian juniors who have made a name for themselves on the world stage, including 2023 Wimbledon finalist Yaroslav Dyomin, reigning Under-19 Russian Championship champion Egor Pleshivtsev, and Daniel Hazime and Dmitry Burtsev, who have performed well this season, will compete for the Northern Palmyra Trophy. In the girls' side, Daria Egorova, Victoria Milovanova, Vlada Mincheva and Ksenia Smirnova will play in the tournament.

"The tournaments in St. Petersburg that we (Formula TX Company) organized and hold are always remembered with warmth by both players and spectators. Therefore, despite any external circumstances, we want to keep this atmosphere of friendship, sport and good competition and excitement on the court. We also think it is important to support our young athletes, to give them an opportunity to be in the company of professionals, to train with them. This is a chance for them to show themselves both on the court and off it - at interviews, during master classes and other additional activities", - says Natalia Kamelzon, General Director of the organizing company "Formula Tennis-Hockey".

"Sport should build bridges between people and countries, not destroy. Although our tournament is an exhibition tournament and does not have an official status, I have no doubt that it is just such a platform and will be held at the highest level," says Alexander Medvedev, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC FC Zenit, Advisor to the Director General of Gazprom Export, General Director of the Trophies of Northern Palmyra tournament.

It should be reminded that the first international exhibition team tournament "Trophies of Northern Palmira" was held in December 2022. Svetlana Kuznetsova's team, which included Evgeny Donskoy (Russia) and Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan), won the tournament.
